Paul J. Levine – Head of Growth, Marketing, and Development
Paul Levine is the Scratch Foundation’s Head of Growth, Marketing, and Development. His teams lead business development and strategic partnerships for the Foundation’s non-philanthropic efforts and the organization’s global activities and businesses across K12 education, membership, consumer products, media, licensing, and distribution. Mr. Levine also oversees marketing for the Foundation, working closely with colleagues and partners to broaden and deepen the Foundation’s reach and engagement, and to amplify its positive impact on kids, parents, teachers, and their communities around the world.
Paul is a global executive and thought leader widely recognized over the past 25 years for leading transformative change, growth, brand building, and impact for mission-driven organizations of all types across the tech, media, education, and consumer landscapes. A digital pioneer, Mr. Levine has established several flagship innovation labs and spearheaded the design and development of numerous game-changing products, platforms, and businesses. Paul also brings deep passion and expertise around the ethical and inclusive design, development, use, and impact of technology, media, learning, and play for kids and consumers. He has served on numerous non-profit and for-profit boards and is a lifelong volunteer with organizations that support disadvantaged youth.
Prior to Scratch, Paul was the CEO and President of PlayScience, where he transformed a small research shop into the go-to innovation, strategy, and design agency for the “Kids & Family” market. Paul and his teams worked intimately with brands, non-profits, startups, museums, and universities to develop next generation products, content, curriculum, programs, and new businesses with marquee brands including Disney, PBS, Sesame Workshop, National Geographic, Discovery, Benesse, Hasbro, Spin Master, Kids2, Girl Scouts, Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft. He also reshaped PlayScience’s innovation PlayLab and Sandbox Summit into top thought leaders at the center of technology, play, learning, media, and policy.
Before PlayScience, Mr. Levine was the global EVP of Corporate Strategy and the EVP of the Interactive Platform’s Division at National Geographic. Brought on board to help transform the organization, he established and scaled Corporate Strategy, Business Development, and Innovation for the $2.5B+ Global Media Group to drive 20X revenue growth via the negotiation and successful implementation of hundreds of global partnerships, including Nat Geo’s expansion into SE Asia and EMEA. As head of Interactive Platforms, Paul stood up, integrated, and scaled Nat Geo’s digital publishing, mobile, games, video, maps, and for-profit K12 businesses into the organization’s third most profitable division. He also operationalized and oversaw global product development and digital distribution.
Paul began his career at Morgan Stanley. Afterwards, he practiced technology and intellectual property law before moving into business and product leadership. Mr. Levine holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Union College, and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
Paul lives in Bethesda, MD, and is the proud father of five. He enjoys traveling, biking, and hiking (often mixing the three). And a bibliophile since childhood, Paul is an avid collector of rare and unique books with a focus on Children’s and Modern First Literature, Science Fiction, Americana, and World History.
