Our DEI Commitment Statement
The Scratch Foundation not only develops creative coding technologies, but also supports creative learning experiences for people from diverse communities. As we strive to build an inclusive educational platform and movement, we center our work on children around the world from traditionally marginalized communities. These include learners who have been systematically and historically excluded from opportunities to access and engage with creative learning.
As an organization, we are committed to building a diverse team of employees and fostering a supportive work environment that is inclusive of diverse voices, identities, and perspectives across all levels of our organization. We do this by revisiting our operational DEI approaches annually to assess ways in which we can improve upon our work in service of marginalized communities.
We understand that self-expression can create tension in spaces with a wide array of viewpoints and cultural backgrounds. In order to foster a welcoming community, we uplift voices that celebrate and affirm their own identity—not those that devalue or diminish the identities and backgrounds of others.
This is a starting point, and this journey will require intentional reflection and engagement. At the Scratch Foundation, we are committed to promoting sustainable processes in service to our communities.
