Curiosity Convening

Designing a Future Shaped by Curiosity

Curiosity is more than a trait. It’s a catalyst for innovation and the foundational building block of learning. It sparks discovery, fuels creative thinking, and drives questions that lead to breakthroughs. Kids deserve for their curiosity to be nurtured. Yet too often, it is undervalued or overlooked in education systems.

About the Convening

About the Convening

In 2025, with support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Scratch hosted the first-of-its-kind Curiosity Convening at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. In collaboration with Stanford University Professors Bruce McCandliss and Nick Haber, we convened cross-disciplinary experts in neuroscience, AI, developmental psychology, and educational design to explore curiosity as a scientific concept and design principle.

We investigated how curiosity can be cultivated across classrooms and communities. With Scratch as a living case study, we surfaced insights into how curiosity-driven learning can support deeper and more joyful learning outcomes for kids around the world.

Curiosity in Practice

Curiosity in Practice

At the Curiosity Convening, Scratch served as a case study of what it means to center curiosity in learning.

From the moment a young person opens the Scratch editor, they’re invited to explore their interests, whether by coding a game, animating a story, or designing something entirely new. There are no right answers or fixed outcomes. Learning unfolds through playful inquiry and experimentation.

Scratch shows what’s possible when curiosity drives learning. It offers a scalable, real-world model that helps reimagine education for the 21st century.
